The fix for plasterboard screws that sink too deep and tear the paper. A collar on each bit stops the screw at the right depth, sitting the head just under the surface ready for filler. The screw can't go any further, so you can drive one after another at full speed without checking each one.
The collar is magnetic too. It holds the screw on the bit, so you can work one-handed overhead or at arm's length without the screw dropping off. The ring is detachable if you need a normal PH2 bit for other jobs.
Specs at a glance
- Tip: PH2 (Phillips No. 2), the standard drywall screw head
- Length: about 50 mm, collar about 15 mm across
- Shank: 1/4" hex, fits standard drill-drivers and impact drivers
- Material: S2 alloy steel
- Collar: magnetic, detachable, sets the screw depth
- Packs: 3 or 5 bits
Worth knowing
PH2 only. These suit Phillips-head drywall and wood screws. They won't fit Pozidriv (PZ) or Torx screws, so check your screw heads before you start.
The depth is set by the collar, not adjusted on it. It stops the screw just below the board surface, which is right for plasterboard. For timber, where you might want the screw flush or proud, take the collar off.
Bits wear out, so that's why they come in packs. The supplier lists 4.7 stars across more than 10,000 orders.
